The bike. Despite them saying its really not about the bike, it really is, no?
Let’s face it: We’re all bike geeks, and many of us are gear snobs. Well, let’s retract that…I’m not a picky, I just know what I like and as long as what I have is perfect, then we won’t have any problems, will we?
From smooth groomed trails in the desert…
To World Cup race tracks in the Black Forrest of Germany…
The Scalpel has treated us well and is our go-to machine for riding, racing, training, and it has even seen its fair share of time on the pavement in our quest towards podiums and trails where Passports are often required.
Bikes are a unique purchase and one that isn’t made on an impulse. We wanted a bike that was full suspension. This isn’t 1999 and I’m not any more likely to climb with the bike “rigid” than I am to descend with it locked out. So a full suspension design that works going uphill and downhill was needed.
It needed to be stiff…two wheels in two different ruts or turning trajectories won’t cut it. Light weight…need we mention these bikes will be used by folks who only fill their water bottles just enough to make a lap on its contents.
Add a one-sided, 110mm travel, 2.7 pound fork with a lock out that’ll make a road bike blush, the 2×9 42/29 tooth System Integration crank/bottom bracket with ceramic bearings that’s stiffer and lighter than anything else on the market, and a 100mm travel rear shock with 3 platform settings…and by golly, we’re onto something here.
