Sue Butler
Sue like riding. for fun. She hangs out in her remote Oregon cabin, knits, sews, makes stationary…yeah, she has that craft thing going on…what else are you going to do when the sun sets 30miles from the nearest road in your timber lodge?
Hi Sue. You’re new to the squad and brought with you a national champion’s jersey from winning your age group in cyclocross. That’s solid! What else stands out for you?
Winning TransRockies ‘06 just 6 months after major knee surgery. Little girls were coming up and asking for autographs, as were adult men, but it was amazing. My race partner and I just rode our race and had fun. Even with the flu on day 6, we pulled it off and to think I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to race a bike 6 months earlier. This was an amazing victory, personally, for me.
The day after Christmas last year I think I slept until noon and was sick on holiday candy. What did you do during the holidays?
I was racing my first world cup. Lining up so far back, I had no idea where I was, but had a blast! Had the top North American finish & the crowd and experience was just amazing. Top 17 in Hofstade!
‘07 was your first year as a pro, and not to mention a number, but you may remember the Nixon years. Ready to rack up some top 10 National Calendar results?
My highlight was 11th at Snowmass in the short track XC. 2 seconds off 9th…we’ll see if I can’t get 2 seconds faster in 2008.
I’m a Portlander…you’re a Portlander. Does that mean we can throw mud at each other and call that bonding?
That’s probably a bad idea, but splashing each other could be a bonding moment, don’t you think?
